Prepping the Soil: Vegetable Garden in the Making

You know what it said about sowing seeds...

"What do you make of this? A farmer planted seed. As he scattered the seed, some of it fell on the road, and birds ate it. Some fell on gravel; it sprouted quickly but didn't put down roots, so when the sun came up it withered just as quickly. Some fell in the weeds; as it came up, it was strangled by the weeds. Some fell on good earth, and produced a harvest beyond his wildest dreams.

Are you listening to this? Really listening?"

The two eldest spent the whole morning, with their pyjamas on, pulling weeds and throwing out rocks alongside their Tatay/father. At first, they just wanted to go ahead and plant the seeds on the rocky, weed infested earth. They eventually understood the importance of having good soil. Soil where plants can flourish, deepen roots and not be strangled by weeds.

There is defintely much to learn and "see" in gardening.

We dream of having spinach, lettuce, tomatoes, cilantro, green beans, okra, eggplant, pechay..

Basil, mint, rosemary, thyme..

but maybe, it's better to start small.
